Wireless EV Charging Systems

The electric vehicle test track at Utah State University provides a glimpse into the future when electric vehicles can charge wirelessly, while in motion. Dynamic wireless charging will extend travel range and dramatically reduce the size, weight and cost of EV battery packs and the need for fixed location EV charging stations.
Regan Zane is the founder and Director of the Center for Sustainable Electrified Transportation (SELECT) at Utah State University (USU). He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado and is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at USU. He leads a wide range of research programs in power electronics for EV drivetrains and charging infrastructure, battery management systems, and dc and ac micro-grids including grid integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage. Regan also directs research efforts at Utah State's Electric Vehicle & Roadway Research Facility and Test Track; the focus of research at this unique facility is dynamic and static wireless charging of electric vehicles.
